CAS Medical Systems, Inc. Provides Update on FORE-SIGHT Absolute Cerebral Oximeter
Branford, Conn. February 11, 2009 CAS Medical Systems, Inc. (NasdaqGM: CASM), a leader in non-invasive monitoring that is vital to patient care, today provided an update on its FORE-SIGHT® Absolute Cerebral Oximeter.
In 2008 the Company achieved several significant milestones with regard to FORE-SIGHT, including:
- The European product introduction with positive sales results
- Becoming the first company to receive FDA 510(k) clearance for the neonatal application of cerebral oximetry
- The commercial launch of the neonatal/infant sensor
- A four-fold increase in the installed base of monitors to a total of 151 at the end of 2008
Andrew E. Kersey, President and CEO of CASMED, states, “We made great strides in 2008 with our FORE-SIGHT Absolute Cerebral Oximeter, increasing market awareness of the benefits of cerebral oximetry as well as the specific advantages offered by FORE-SIGHT. While the current economic climate creates challenges for all companies, we plan to build on our success to date and remain confident that the importance of cerebral oximetry as a standard of care and the superiority of our absolute measurement technology will provide growth opportunities in 2009.”
Clinically, the volume of evidence supporting the use of the FORE-SIGHT technology continues to increase. Studies, such as those published recently in the Journal of Perinatology, Neonatal Intensive Care, British Journal of Anesthesia and Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia demonstrate the value of cerebral oximetry monitoring to maintenance of cerebral oxygenation levels during procedures such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy and to indicate the effectiveness of chest compressions during CPR. CASMED expects publication of additional studies and abstracts in the coming months.
Throughout 2009, CASMED will continue to invest to develop the cerebral oximetry market. The Company recently added a new director of clinical affairs and a re-aligned the FORE-SIGHT sales team in both the neonatal/infant and adult arenas. CASMED currently has a total of 12 sales and clinical specialists focused exclusively on FORE-SIGHT, supplemented by key U.S. manufacturer’s representative groups and international distributors.
The Company’s 2009 goals include expanding its contacts with thought leaders and teaching institutions around the world, as well as expanding its distribution in Europe. In addition, CASMED expects to launch new product enhancements to FORE-SIGHT and to receive additional FDA 510(k) clearances to expand its product portfolio.
The FORE-SIGHT Absolute Cerebral Oximeter will be featured at a number of scientific meetings this quarter. In addition to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons last month, attendance is planned in February at the German Society for Thoracic Surgery, the Conference on Brain Monitoring and Neuroprotection in the Newborn, and the CNMC Symposium on ECMO and Advanced Therapies for Respiratory Failure. March shows include the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists Update on Cardiopulmonary Bypass, and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.
